Hello everyone! Thanks for stopping by to read my blog. I am very new to the blog world so bear with me.
A little bit about this blog:
Initially, I wasn't even planning on making a blog for this trip but I was inspired after seeing Becca's blog who is here with me in Yokosuka. I also wanted to keep my family and friends more updated than the occasional Facebook post. This blog will hopefully allow you guys to get a better idea of what I'm doing in Yokosuka, Japan this summer. But before I get to explaining why I am here I make a fair warning that I am typing freely as I write my blogs just as I would with a personal journal. Uncut. Unedited. This could make my blog more candid or just plain disorganized. I guess we will see but I gave you my fair warning.
So why am I here in Japan?
For those of you who don't know I am here in Japan because I got the amazing opportunity to work for a program called Camp Adventure. Back in October, I was scrolling through my email when I clicked on one from the ICC (Internship and Career Center). Quickly scrolling through, I read the brief description of a program called Camp Adventure. I immediately thought, "Wow, sounds too good to be true. Working with kids and getting to travel?" So a couple weeks later I went to the info session. Again everything they said in that meeting was too good to be true but I knew I had to be a part of it. Essentially, Camp Adventure contracts with American military bases and embassies all around the world to provide an amazing summer camp experience for the kids whose parents are in the military. They pay for your flight, housing, and even give you a stipend to be there. True story, I called my mom write after that meeting before I ever knew I would get into the program and said I am going abroad this summer. A couple weeks after that I did an all day interview called LAC (Leadership Assessment Center) and by January I found out that I had got in!
By February training had begun. I gave every Tuesday night from 6pm-10pm until the end of April, sometimes these trainings were at Davis and sometimes in Sacramento. Not only that but there was an all day Youth Conference in March that we had to attend, I spent 4 Saturdays getting Lifeguard/CPR/AED certified, and did tons of paperwork! Man was it a process to get here and along the way everyone kept saying it would all be worth it. Time will tell, but I think they were right. Currently I am Yokosuka, Japan about hour south of Tokyo on an American Naval base. In a couple days I will start my work with 2nd and 3rd graders here on base and I can't wait to "Catch the Magic".
Hope you enjoy my blog!
Sounds like an amazing opportunity! I will be reading every word of your blog and hopefully sharing your adventures through your words! Love you tons, Nonna
