Getting to Japan

WOW. I am exhausted. My computer says its 5:22 AM LA time. I have been traveling for a total of 22 hours. But I’m here and I’m safe. Initial excitement at the beginning of the plan ride plateaued, as it was an 11 hour flight and who can be that excited for 11 hours? But when I saw the first piece of land out of the plane window I lit up and had the biggest grin across my face. Months of training and preparing for this very moment and it had arrived. I was here. My excitement again plateaued after sitting in the airport for 2+ hours waiting for other camp counselors to arrive but seeing how big our group is made me excited for the adventures to come. It didn’t hit me in the airport that I was actually in Japan because it looked much like any airport minus the signs being in Japanese. One thing I did notice though is Japan is clean!

Ahead of us was a 2 hour bus ride, most of which was unfortunately in the dark, but we got to see multiple Ferris wheels, the Tokyo sky tree, and the Yokohama skyline. Even though I knew Japan was a 1st world country I was still surprised by how modern it is. I am excited to see the older parts of Japan too though. On the bus ride, Giselle and I talked almost the entire time and grew close very quickly. She is from Chico State. Random, but we went through like 5 tolls on the 2 hour bus ride! When we arrived to base, exhausted out of our minds, we got to our rooms, and found out who our roommates were. My roommates name was Trisha. (I say “was” because we were assigned different roommates the next morning). She is from Iowa, despite being roommates for one night, we also got very close. Fun Fact about her the first time she saw the ocean was on this trip! It was really fun to see her reaction. But anyways, our rooms are nice. The beds are comfy, we have a TV, minifridge, microwave, and bathroom that we share with our neighbors. This feels like the dorms take 2 which is cool because its easy to get close with people you’re living on the same floor with. Well that is about all! I get to sleep in tomorrow morning! Woo! Goodnight Japan. J
